Hippos return to action following Lockdown

Hippos return to action following Lockdown

Andrew Symonds13 Aug 2020 - 16:53

Pre season starts

Honiton Town have had both their sides in action in preseason fixtures, although these have been very quiet with no supporters allowed to attend. We started training a few weeks ago, following all the safety precautions and social distancing.

The first team started their campaign with a one all draw at Western League Bridport Town. They are following this up with planned fixtures against local sides Colyton and Ottery St Mary. While we don’t normally get thousands of people at our fixtures, there is always the ‘Hippo Herd’ that following throughout the season. In many of our away games there is quite often more away supporters than those from the home team, so it seems a bit weird playing our friendly games with no home, or away, supporters at the grounds.

Once again Aaron Doble leads the line as player manager.

However it looks like we will have to get use to it, with our first team starting their season on the 5th September 2020, and current guidelines will be that fans won’t be able to support their teams in person until October at the earliest.

Having not kick a ball for nearly 6 months, the lads are keen to get going. 2020 is going to remember for a lot of things, we believe that there are many positive items things that the club are doing
