On a very cold December evening, a youthful Ammers made the trip to Horbury and shocked plenty of people as they picked up all three points at the Juice Personnel Stadium.
Horbury started bright, creating a great opportunity in the opening ten minutes. Some neat play saw the ball find its way to Joe Angell on the penalty spot but his poorly executed finish looped on to the bar.
From that moment, the midfield battle seemed to be won by the visitors for long periods of the opening half with the away side deservedly taking the lead with a neat finish. A goal that could have been avoided for Town had they cleared their lines down the left flank, with Luke Playford cheaply giving the ball away and being punished for it.
They soon made it two after breaking through the lines of the Horbury press and playing their way into a great position. A curled finish couldn’t have been placed better, giving Hagreen no chance.
Without playing anywhere near their best, Horbury created plenty of chances in the first half, most of them falling to James Cusworth. However, the keeper always seemed to place himself in great positions to make comfortable saves. The linesman flag saved Awty’s blushes as he crashed the ball off the bar from a couple of yards out on the rebound from a Cusworth strike. A look back at that on the Veo did show Awty onside..
The second half saw plenty of ball for Town and plenty more chances. Town lumped Tom Brook up top and tried a more direct approach which did eventually find joy a couple of minutes from the end.
Brad Swain probably had the best of those chances before the goal, snatching at his first effort only a few yards away from goal and his second effort on the stretch was unfortunately straight at the keeper.
Hagreen lumped the ball forward with a flick of from Ammers centre half finding its way to Awty who slid home to make it a nervy last few moments. No further chances followed in the end and Ammers deservedly took the three points
