Huntly looking to build on the good work of last week had their first home game of the season against an organised and determined Turriff side.
kick off and phases went back and fore between the teams, each side testing the other and getting their game plans going. Turriff worked their way up into Huntly's 22 and the home side was penalised for going off feet. The visitors kicked for the posts and the first score of the day was recorded. some good play in the middle of the field saw huntly make inroads to the turriff half only to be turned over, good inter play from the visitors forwards and backs took them deep into huntlys half, the home team were judged to infringe again and turriff's kicker stretched the lead.
Huntly managed their way up the park and for the first time made it into Turriffs 22, continued pressure by the home side saw Turriff infringe and the home side decided to close the deficit with a kick to posts, success and the first points for the home side were on the board. shortly after with some good inter play from the forwards and the backs the home side were again awarded a penalty and another successful kick saw the scores level.
unfortunately the first half was disrupted by an injury and the game was swapped onto the castle side pitch to allow the game to continue and the injury to be dealt with.
Huntly made changes at half time allowing players to return to more familiar positions in an effort to sure up set pieces and give them go forward. Turriff scored the first try of the day and had the upper hand for most of the second half. phase play and penalties went back and fore between the sides Turriff capitilsed and increased their lead.
huntly were forced into position changes by injuries and the final substitutes were brought on, this seemed to lift the home side who finally managed to cross the white wash, conversion successful and the fight back was on. turriff fought their way back upfield but some smart play by the home side saw the ball turned over, quick play saw it move to the wing however a bit of foul play by turriff saw thier winger sent to the bin for 10 mins. Huntly managed to capitilise with some very strong carries, speed and after a few attempts just short of the line the home side managed to cross the line for the second time, conversion unsucessful, the score line very close with not long left. unfortunately it was not going to be for the home side and the visitors were awarded a penalty which was kicked succesfully bring the score differnce to 5. Final whistle and the scores were Huntly 18 - Turriff 23.
The homeside were able to hand a debut to Thomas Eadon, a young lad that has come up through the age groups, and continue to build and develop some of our less experienced players. For a new team still finding its feet all the players can be pround of their efforts on the pitch and will only get better the more they train and play together.
