Hyndland continued their fine recent form with a second consecutive win away to Lanark/Clydesdale, this time in the West Regional Bowl quarter-finals. Despite the three week break in competitive action, as well as numerous changes to the squad, the side showed no signs of rust as they burst out the traps and took the game to their opponents from the opening whistle. A first half blitz saw Hyndland race into what would become an unassailable lead, scoring 6 unanswered tries.
Hyndland's best performances this season have been characterised by the forward-pack taking control of the game, building a platform for the backline to play expansive, running rugby; today was no exception. Doubles from MacIver and Glen, as well as a try from McGuinness showed once again how potent this backline can be when given plenty of possession in the right areas of the park. Tries on either side of half-time from Cowie then effectively ended the match as a contest.
Unfortunately, the team were unable to sustain such a high level of performance for the full 80 minutes, allowing their opponents back into the match. With Hyndland further depleted by yet more injuries, the visitors took full advantage to cross for 5 second half tries of their own, to make for a slightly more flattering final scoreline of 45-31. Nevertheless, this was Hyndland's day as they progressed to the semi-finals of the bowl, a competition they will feel they have a strong chance of winning.
Though Hyndland may be disappointed with how the game finished, it was definitely a performance of more positives than negatives. The lethal combination of power and pace in the centre partnership of MacIver and McGuinness will test any defence, while one of Glen's scores was dubbed an early contender for try of the season, capping a fine team move.
Hyndland are next back in action on the 3rd of December as they host Birkmyre in a West Division Three fixture at Scotstoun, before closing out the year with a home fixture against Waysiders/Drumpellier the following week.
