The Golds kicked off their Wearside League First Division campaign against Deerness Valley under the floodlights at Coach Lane.
Much like a microwave ready meal, it did not take long for this game to heat up. With tackles and scoring opportunities flying in.
The Golds were making the most of possession of the ball early on and would make it count when Julian Abrams made a driving run down the left wing before delivering a cross with pin point accuracy finding Yannis Boudiab in the box who put the ball away and gave the Golds an early lead.
Just moments later after scoring, the Golds were on the defence as the opposition tried to find an equaliser, however, their efforts were denied by an excellent save from Jake Day.
Two great chances would shortly come for the Golds to extend their lead. In the 27th minute the Deerness Valley keeper rushed out of his area to make a clearance but would only find Amir Moore whose effort at goal would just fire wide of the target.
Amir had another great chance before half time, rounding the keeper but finding the wrong side of the post with his shot at goal.
The Golds looked set to take their lead into half time before Deerness Valley were awarded a penalty with seconds to go in the half which they would ultimately convert and the teams would enter the break all square.
The second half would serve up more chances for the Golds to take the lead again with chances for Ziyad Lahbabi being denied by the opposition keeper and Amir Moore just not being able to get the ball out of his stride after a cross from Kalonji Cowan.
Deerness Valley thought they had succeeded in their quest for a winner when they went ahead in the 79th minute.
The Golds would cancel it out when Ziyad’s corner deflected in off of the opposition keeper in the dying moments of the game, granting the Golds a point from the game which they deserved at the very least.
