COLTS LOSE IN SEMI FINAL

COLTS LOSE IN SEMI FINAL

Stephanie Newman13 Apr - 09:17

Ivybridge 38 - 39 Newton Abbot

What a way to spend the last Saturday of rugby and a great tribute to Treve, with a minutes silence for before both games and at clubs around the County. It was lovely to see Carole at the club too.

So we started the day with Ivybridge Barbarians taking on touring side, Barkswell & Balsall, highly entertaining game, played with humour and fun. A fair result with a draw of 5 all.
It appeared the visitors throughly enjoyed themselves after the game and later on in the afternoon led rousing singing in the club house. Just what touring is all about.

Then the big one and in front on a large crowd of supporters.
But it just want meant to be, the lads had gone 5 weeks without a game. That is the problem of being a great side, no one else wants to play you, especially at this time of the season. Although the lads have been training hard every Thursday.

It was a repeat of last years semi-final when we played at Newton and played an outstanding game. However this was touch and go all game, with both sides matching scores. We do go 10 points up, only for the All Whites to hit bac. We were 2 points ahead in the dying moments when the referee awarded Newton a penalty in front of the posts which was duly kicked and the final whistle went.
Elation and devastation in one second.

Yet these lads took it on the chin. As a club we have to be very proud of our Colts, most of this team have come all the way through minis and juniors. Every year the Colts are a huge credit to Ivybridge RFC, in the way they play and behave. We receive many many congratulations and comments about this and especially when they are all in their Number 1s after games.

So it is onward for the second years to senior rugby if they choose to and the first years will take on that mantle and welcome the U16s into the squad next season.

Thank you to Jodie Wild who has been the manager from Day 1 from U7s to now.
To all those who have coached them. In the early days Richard Brimacome and Russ Moddy. Then Kevin Earnshaw came in when Richard stepped away.
Now with the Colts it has been Spenser Owen, Kevin Earnshaw, Will Willden, Steve Hamilton, Mat Burns and our wonderful warm up man Rob Williams.

The future is bright.
