The Blades welcomed Essex Olympian Premier League side Springfield FC on Tuesday night and were narrowly beaten 1-0 by the visitors. After Saturday's heavy defeat to Team Brantham, the home side made the visitors work hard for the win with a solitary 25 yard strike the difference in a well contested match. Albeit the stronger side throughout, Springfield FC could have easily been pegged back by Kelvedon as there were chances for either side.
On Saturday Braintree Town Reserves were the visitors to The Chase in what was one of the biggest friendlies Kelvedon Social had seen in recent times. Despite the visitors being from the Thurlow Nunn Division 1, the difference between the sides was minimal as an entertaining 1-1 draw was played out. Martin Young comprehensively scored a penalty after Ross Catchpole had been taken down by Braintree's goalkeeper. Ross Long hit the post with an effort from 15 yards and he also was unlucky not to score later in the game when he brought out a good save from Braintree's keeper when through on goal. Braintree responded early in the second half and scored after catching Kelvedon out at the back.
There was plenty of praise from manager Craig Jay and the players alike as right back Matt Canavan stated "We're looking good in the last 2 games and we're all enjoying playing again". Martin Young was also enthusiastic about Kelvedon's chances saying "We were very good, very solid. We are a good strong side and with a few tweaks the goals will come. We need to be more decisive in the final third but we are on the right track".
All in all a good week for the Blades who demonstrated they can mix it with sides of higher quality. The Kelvedon defence has been superb and the shape of the side has been one that the opposition find extremely hard to break down. Saturday's game saw Kelvedon create more chances and this will be needed going into Tuesday night's tough game away at Halstead Town.
