Albions League opener came at home to Snaith Pheonix, the recent merge between Snaith Jets and Snaith Sonics saw the new team arrive at De Lacy for their 4th game of the season while Albion without a game in the previous 3 weeks went in cold against a Snaith in off the back of the previous weeks 8-0 victory over Kellingley.
The game started slowly for Albion as an even contest for the first 15 minutes saw the visitors take the lead from a corner from the left side thrown deep to the back post for a tap in as the loose runner was not picked up Albion trailed 1-0 and at that point had not really found any rhythm in the game at all.
Following the goal we found a little more possession as Snaith started to sit back early on the lead and looked to frustrate us, we started to move the ball better and slowly seemed to find our feet and following some great work through the middle from Jake Shaw the ball was moved out wide to the right finding Frayza on the overlap and from a tight angle he smashed Albion back into the game hitting an unstoppable shot into the top right corner making it 1-1.
Back in the game and on the front foot Albion were finding good areas of space and forcing the Snaith back 4 to work hard to cover the overlapping runs out wide and the direct play of Jake up the middle. A rare foray into the Albion half for snmaith towards the back end of the first half saw them get a corner again out wide on the left.
This time the ball was delivered towards the near post and another free header granted saw Snaith take a 2-1 lead against the run of play but defensive frailties from set pieces were shown up again. 3 of the 4 goals conceded in the previous 3 games and the first half of this one had now come from corners showing plenty to focus on in that area.
The game returned back to its previous flow but with Snaith now banked up in a 4-5-1 they were happy to sit in and it was evident they had come looking to defend what they had, Albion tried bravely but went into HT 2-1 down in a game they had the better of so far.
Second Half started and slipped quickly into a familiar format with Albion on the front foot but being met with strong and focussed rear guard efforts from the Snaith lads they had come out in the 2nd half looking to hold onto the 3 points they had control of minutes ticked on and following some great work from the Snaith Keeper and some last line tackles the score was still 2-1 going into the final 15 minutes.
A tactical switch going to 3 at the back and going into a 3-3-4 formation saw Albion get real width and possession deep in Snaith territory as they penned the away side in for the final knocking's of a game they had been by far the better side in but had found a resolute side not willing to give in to the relentless floods of pressure some great work finally allowed Billy Hudson space to wriggle free of the Snaith full back forcing him to give away a corner with 2 minutes remaining, Ethan stepped up and delivered a delightful ball to the back post which found a barn storming group of Frayza, Jake and James B in at the back and Jake got the final touch to put Albion on level terms at 2-2.
With little time left Albion tried to get the ball forward again forcing a good save from the Snaith keeper and the whistle went meaning the points were shared with Albion left looking at what could of been and Snaith leaving feeling they had pinched something in a game they really were outplayed in for 75% of the match.
Plenty to work on at training toi tighten up the set piece defence but with the ball Albion doing what they do best.
Vision Direct Man of The Match was James Brear with an energetic and workmanlike display keeping the ball moving and feeding attacks time after time from the middle creating the pressure that finally told late on.
No more than they had deserved from a relentless barrage of pressure
