Following the previous weeks result at home to Snaith Albion came into this game knowing that they needed to provide a much more complete performance to get the job done against last seasons 4th place Ulleskelf.
Last season saw honour's shared by the two sides with an early season 7-3 victory at DeLacy followed by a late season reversal away seeing Ulleskelf run out 3-1 winners that day as they had a strong finish to the season pushing for 3rd place finally secured by Albion.
Albion started the game strongly finding early control of the ball whilst Ulleskelf provided plenty to think about as they managed two dangerous counter attacks to show there was plenty to take care of at the back as expected.
Albion however were getting the better of the ball and the territory was strongly in our favour as we settled well into the game Frayza found early success on the outside of Ulleskelf's left back finding he had the pace to stretch the back four of the visitors and this is where the early success came from the link up of Jake and Frayza at it did the week before providing the opening goal as Jake picked the ball up on the edge of the box and fed Frayza this week hitting his effort across the keeper into the left hand side of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
Albion were straight back onto the front foot from the restart and for a 10-15 minute period blitzed Ulleskelf to take the game away from the visitors and give Albion a great platform to manage the game from.
Frayza rolled his man on the edge of the box and fed Albert who slotted coolly under the keeper to make it 2-0.
On a roll the game was quickly at 3-0 as James Brear fed Charlie down the right edge he skipped passed the full back and pulled a square ball back to Jake who shifted the ball out of his feet and fired into the right corner to take Albion into a commanding lead.
With a healthy lead the boys took stock and held the ball well keeping and looking after possession as Ulleskelf switched tactically to a 5-4-1 to try and stem the tide but with the damage done changes were made to keep bodies fresh for later in the game which saw Billy H, Frayza and Evan replaced by Harry, Riley and Caelam.
Like for like changes kept the pressure on the shell shocked full backs of Ulleskelf as they were getting penned deep in their own half and looking at long clearing balls to release the pressure but in turn giving the ball back to Albion Logan and the back four were happy to pick up the loose balls recycle and reset before pushing the ball back into midfield this became the flow of the game right up to half time and a brilliant first half put Albion in a fantastic position at HT 3-0 up.
Half Time was all about reflection on the improvement made from the previous weeks first half but also served as an opportunity to get the tactical approach right for the 2nd half the boys were told to ensure the central midfield area was now shut down and we were looking to manage the game through, with the damage all done in the first half it was about retaining possession and minimizing the opportunities for the opposition.
Albion started the 2nd half confidently with Harry and Riley keeping the full backs penned back and the midfield quartet of Albert, James Travis and Charlie as asked shutting down the central areas not allowing the Ulleskelf midfield time to get hold of the ball with Jake pressing the centre halves from the front.
With counter attacks and set pieces the only chances for Ulleskelf they gained a few corners in a short spell but the work done on the training ground mid week was paying off as they got noting from them in fact they never looked dangerous as the back four and Logan at the back controlled those areas confidently whenever needed Logan taking 2 dominating high balls to settle the nerves and show just how far the boys at the back had come from the previous weeks troubles.
Albion then created an opportunity as the ball went into the box it struck an arm of the defender and the Ref pointed to the spot, the resulting kick was saved well by the Ulleskelf keeper and the ball went out for a corner.
Albion however were now in complete control of the game as Ulleskelf tried hard but seemed to be lost for ideas whatever they tried Albion had answers and in turn when ever they tried to apply any sort of pressure the boys out wide were exploiting the spaces running round the outsides.
Late in the game Albion had a 4th goal cruelly chalked off after a great corner by Caelam it was met on the volley by James Brear under the keeper but the whistle went for what looked a very harsh push on the defender giving Ulleskelf a reprieve.
The game was another example of how when Albion control the ball and use the space out wide how they are a absolute joy to watch a fantastic performance and a great result from what on paper was a very tough game.
The result leaves Albion 4th in the table with a game in hand on 2nd place Barmby Moor and 2 games in hand on Colton in 1st and next weeks opponents Ackworth in 3rd.
It is tight at the top and every point will matter as the tough games keep coming for Albion.
Vision Direct Man Of The Match was Frayza Benton for his all action display and the domination he showed of his Full Back Opponent giving Albion the platform the deliver such a solid result a goal and an assist to add to the performance made him a valid winner of the award this week.
