Former Kuils River AFC player Eleazar Rodgers was on target this weekend, scoring the winning goal in the final of the inaugural Maize Cup , played at the Moruleng Stadium, in the North West Province.The pre-season tournament, which involves Platinum Stars, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bloemfontein Celtic from the Absa Premiership, as well as Township Rollers from the Botswana Premier League.
Rodgers, who started the Semi Final against Rollers earlier in the day, came on off the bench in the Final against Black Aces to score the winner via a header in the 60th minute to clinch the cup.

Many will remember Rodgers fondly, with some having played with him not too long ago. Super League players like Abe Vermeulen, Carlisle Swartz and Under 17 coach Marvin Smith were all his team mates in his junior years at the club.

This will be his second season as a Stars player, after signing from Sundowns at the start of the 2014/15 season. He was able to bag 7 goals from 15 starts and 7 sub appearances during his first season. He started his professional career as a Santos player in 2006 before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns for 2 years in 2012, 1 of which he spent on loan at Ajax Cape Town.
