Squad Update

Squad Update

Alex Everett7 Aug 2021 - 07:21

With a week or so to go until the start of the new NPL season, the club are able to give the following squad update.

Sam Ashton has left the club following discussions with City Manager Mark Fell, as has been reported locally in Bolton, we have reached an agreement with Bolton Wanderers for the loan of Matthew Alexander, we also have another goalkeeper working currently with the squad who has recent professional experience in the Scottish Championship. Lancaster City would like to go on record with our thanks and best wishes to Sam who has been an excellent custodian of our number 1 shirt during his 57 appearances.
The current squad is confirmed below and we expect further additions to this to be announced in the coming days as final decisions are made on trialists / new signings.

City Boss Mark Fell added, “we still have players with us who are not signed as yet and we need to make those decisions in the next 48 hours, we’ve arranged to play Kendal on Tuesday night with a mixed u23 / 1st team for lads who need the extra minutes due to injury or isolation. At this time of year there is always a late addition that crops up so it could be a busy week but we are very satisfied with the squad as it is and any incoming will need to improve us. I’d like to also take the opportunity to thank Sam Ashton for his service to the club, he’s an excellent player and a fantastic person who I’ve worked with for a long time, these decisions aren’t easy for either party and there are lots of factors involved, we’ve been blessed with some outstanding goalkeepers at the club this summer and sadly only 1 will be able to play come the 14th.”
