Langholm RFC took to the road again on Saturday , this time to the Leith Academy playing fields to take on Leith RFC . This has not been a happy hunting ground for Langholm over the years and despite Leith being below Langholm in the league , the Milntown men knew they would have a game on their hands.
Playing conditions were ideal with bright sunshine ( on Leith ) and light winds . However in the first quarter the visitors struggled to secure much ball and Leith made the most of on their possession scoring three tries and a conversion to make the score 17-0 after 25 minutes . Langholm hit back with a good try from Callum Jeffery which Nathan Smith converted to make it 17-7 . The Langholm supporters hoped that this signalled the start of a fight back , and although the visitors were winning more ball a successful penalty by Leith extended their lead to 20-7 at the break .
Langholm were keen to get the next score and fought hard but it was Leith who scored another try early in the second half to make the score 25-7 . Langholm were throwing everything at the home side now and it was a determined Steve Nicol who crashed over for a try at the posts which Bailey Donaldson converted and the score was 25-14. This gave Langholm some hope and they tried their hardest to get another score but a converted try and a late score by Leith took the match away from the visitors . The final score Leith 37 Langholm 14 .
A disappointing result for Langholm who got nothing from this match unlike their previous 5 encounters where bonus points were picked up . They still sit in 5th place in the league on 13 points however . With 2 home matches next on the agenda , this Saturday versus Portobello and Broughton on 28th Oct , they will be hoping to get 2 good results to help them consolidate their league position .
