Saturday saw the Vikings crash out of the president shield at the first hurdle, Langtoft got off to the perfect start Scott Spearink headed a Sam Thompson cross over the home keeper after 20 mins for 1-0, and to be honest the away side should have been further ahead but poor decision making in the final third would come back to haunt them. The Vikings were pegged back by a route one ball that wasn’t dealt with, a found the ICA winger running free of the defence with only Andrew Isabell to beat.

The hammer blow came after the break two quick goals from former Viking Joe Dobson, saw the previously comfortable Vikings now trailing by two goals and a mountain to climb. Langtoft did get a goal back through Josh Hales who was first to react when the ball was loose in the box, and could have been level right at the death after the ICA keeper pulled off a wonder save to frustrate Ashley Firth who’s well hit shot looked destined for the top corner.

Langtoft Manager Ryan Hunnings said; We didn’t capitalise when we were on top, in my opinion we were the better side in the first half and looked very comfortable, but we wasted a few chances and let them back into the game, ICA took advantage when they were on top after half time, and I think they deserved to take the lead. I was however pleased that we showed some heart and could have equalised at the end, but I think we need to be more ruthless when we’re on top and learn to kill teams off. Saturday was a proper cup tie though and an exciting game to watch, good luck to ICA in the next round, but as I said to our lads after the game, we’re very close to clicking and fulfilling our preseason potential, hopefully this is the wakeup call we needed.
