Late Season Surge Saves 1sts
A strong finish to their Division 2 campaign saw Lawrenny cling on to their position in the second rung of the Pembrokeshire League, following a season of struggles that at one point saw them cut adrift at the foot of the table.
New 1st XI Player / Manager Jon Beff oversaw a start to the season that saw a run of one win in the first 10 games, which included an embarrasing cup defeat at the hands of 5th Division Cosheston.
However, an amazing 3rd Division cup win in monsoon conditions against a table topping Kilgetty side, where the team shared 13 goals between them, and a weather induced mid-season break which saw only one game played in nearly three months, saw a turn around in the side's fortunes.
Important wins against Letterston, Solva and Merlins Bridge II, in what were effectively 'six pointers', saw Lawrenny comfortably clear of the relegation zone in ninth place on 27 points - two more than gained in previous seasons.
With a defence marshalled by Chris Beff, aided by goalkeeper Danny Harries, Lawrenny were able to find a way to win the important games against the teams around them. They were helped by joint top goalscorers Owen James and Joe Kidney, whose goals proved vital in dragging the team to safety, the energy in midfield of Matty Lewis, Tom Lewis and Jon Beff, with important contributions from Sam Davies, Kye Bradbury and new signing Tom Cole.
Barring the thriller against Kilgetty, the Cup competitions came and went without any great fanfare, aside from an entertaining (after game) trip to Swansea in the West Wales Cup.
