Leamington Hibs vs Police

Leamington Hibs made the most of the blustery conditions on Sunday against Mid Warwickshire Police, with a convincing 6-0 league victory.

After a close contested Semi final a couple of weeks back, Hibs knew that they would have a battle on their hands against a strong team, especially in the difficult conditions.

However, the greenbacks couldn’t have asked for a better start, going 1-0 up on 5 minutes. Scott O’Loughlin who worked tirelessly on the left hand side cut inside towards goal and laid the ball off to Graham ‘Jonjo’ Bickerdike who threaded through a pin point ball into the area to Ash Kitchen. Kitchen waited for the goalkeeper to commit before dribbling around him and side footing into the empty net.

O’loughlin was involved in the action again on 13 minutes when he was blatantly taken down in the area for a Hibs penalty. Craig Wallsgrove did the rest, firing home from the penalty spot to put Hibs 2-0 up.

Hibs continued to press but were unable to add to the score line in the remaining first half. This was down to some excellent defending from the police who as usual were well marshalled by the outstanding Mark Cheung.

Kitchen scored his second goal of the game with a delightful back flick direct from a Wallsgrove corner on 65 minutes, 3-0. A great dummy (miss hit) from ‘work mate’ Carl Smedley made me think this was well planned on the Royal Mail training pitch.

Special mention to the match ball for the next notable moments of the game, getting in the middle of not one, but two, 50-50 smashes between heavyweights Steve Brandl and Stephen Okoye!!

Hibs went 4-0 up on 70 minutes, Kitchen sent a ball over the Police defence onto Bickerdike (not sure what he was doing there) who neatly controlled on his chest before lobbing Khane Barlow in the Police goal.

The wind had a major influence in the second half with the Police struggling to get the ball out of their penalty area let alone their half. This meant for a relatively quiet game for Rich Davis, Carl Smedley, Dave Sweet, Callum Cook and Brandl. Hibs keeper Ryan Mason spent most of the second half talking to himself to keep himself distracted from the winds around him.

Goal number 5 came on 75 minutes when Kitchen sent the ball into the box which lopped straight over Barlow in goal. This was Kitchen's fifth hatrick of the season.

Healthy completion is developing between Kitchen and Craig Wallsgrove to see who can score the most goals this season and Wallsgrove scored the final goal of the game (making it 23 goals each to date). An exquisite finish smashed in from a tight angle.

As always, the Police battled hard to the end but Hibs had the quality overall to run out worthy winners.
