Newcomers Northampton started the game the brightest and had two early tests at Leek goal, the first was a comfortable routine save for keeper Beth Cottrell. The second however was an outstanding save who recovered and smother her body at the ball after being rounded by the Northampton striker. As the game went one Leek started coming into their own and has the better chances. Rehanne Mellor was denied by a great save by the Northampton keeper to keep the scores level. However Leek got the break through on the 45th minute, as a corner swung into the back post was met by Cass Hyde who towered over everyone to head the ball into the net.

Second half saw Northampton have more possesion but Leek stood strong with the defensive line being hard to breach. Another fine save by the Northampton keeper denied Leek to double their lead as Rehanne Mellor had another shot on goal. With four minutes left to play in the ninety, Chantelle Gallagher played a through ball which took the whole Northampton back line off guard for Alanya to run in behind and calmy slot the ball around the keeper to double Leeks lead and give them the 3 points.
