Leek travelled to Shrewsbury for this West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division 1 fixture to play Shrewsbury Town.
Leek started well with Bethany Cottrell, Chantelle Gallagher and Katie Gibbons all having half chances coming close. Shrewsbury had a 20 yard shot saved by Leek keeper Hannah Austin.
The breakthrough came on 18 minutes when Alana Copeland put Gallagher through who slotted past the keeper to give Leek the lead.
5 minutes later and Rhian Morris with a good run through the Shrewsbury defence got a shot away which agonisingly was just wide of the post.
Shrewsbury played some good football but the Leek back four were performing well and not giving much away.
Leek won a corner taken by LM Smith and headed in by Gallagher for her and Leek’s second goal.
Half time Shrewsbury Town 0 - 2 Leek Town
Shrewsbury came out for the second half and put Leek under pressure Emma Smith and then Chloe Brown both made excellent challenges and cleared the danger.
Michaela Lockett introduced at half time had a good run down the left side towards goal but couldn’t get her shot away.
Rhian Morris then had the ball in the net but the offside flag disallowed the goal.
5 minutes later and Gallagher put Lockett through 1 v 1 with the Shrewsbury keeper and she finished well to put Leek 3-0 up.
Shrewsbury then attacked down the middle but Leek’s two centre backs Naomi Sale-Hancock and Katie Maya handled everything that was thrown at them.
80 minutes in and a good run by Gallagher down the left side and around the back of the Shrewsbury defence, before pulling the ball back across goal into the path of Alice Painter who fired into the roof of the net for Leek’s fourth goal.
Leek had another goal disallowed on 84 minutes before playing the remainder of the game out to secure a 10th straight league win.
