Hinckley LRFC kicked off their Pitching In Northern Premier League campaign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw away to Dereham Town Football Club.

Following promotion last season, which saw the club make the jump up to step four in the footballing pyramid, Neil Lynes side had little knowledge of what to expect going into the upcoming season, but a solid performance against an established step four side, showed there is a lot to come from this team as the season progresses.

Leicester Road came out of the traps flying in the first half and dominated most of the possession creating numerous chances in the early stages.

The visiting side had a great opportunity to take the lead after just three minutes when a beautiful switch of play from Joseph Lyne fell to the feet of Liam Read with the winger cutting in onto his right foot before releasing a shot which forced the Dereham keeper into a good save.

Leicester Road made their dominance count when in the 11th minute, a free kick from the left-hand side bounced up Infront of an unmarked Danny Jenno who with his back to goal scored an outrageous bicycle-kick to open our account for the season.

Lyne’s side had a golden opportunity to double their lead seven minutes later when another set piece from the exact same position which led to Jenno’s goal, fell to the feet of Jake Brown who unfortunately fired his shot against the cross bar.

The home side then then started to grow back into the game and almost had an opportunity to get a goal back in the 20th minute, when one of their attackers got through one on one against Will Highland in the Leicester Road net, but out of nowhere Pradeep Bahrey came in with an inch perfect slide tackle from behind to take the ball away from the attacker and out for a corner.

Dereham did get their equaliser however in the 27th minute through Valter Rocha.

Despite the setback though, Leicester Road where never put under serious pressure for the rest of the game with the home side failing to force Highland into any saves.

Lyne’s side did create numerous chances as the game progressed and despite the points being shared, there were several positives that the manager and his side can build on going deeper into the season.
