Harborough Town v Leicester Utd Ladies
We knew that despite losing 5-1 against Harborough in a Cup match earlier in the season, we would put up much more of a fight this time around. This match, which was reversed at the last minute thanks to the Harborough management, would be a good game to watch for the neutral. In that cup game we were notably flat but for this league game we were more than up for it. Without having played much football because of the postponement of matches and our training ground taking a battering from the weather, the Leicester ladies were just happy to be playing football and were eager to play some competitive football.
It took until just before half time for a break through and unfortunately it was for Harborough but the game had been pretty evenly matched until then. Their goal, it has to be said, was an absolute screamer which was unstoppable so hats off to their scorer.
Although Town had a handful more of chances, one hitting the bar and the others being saved by the on form Becks L in the Leicester nets, the Leicester defence held firm and we could have even got a late equaliser for ourselves after a well worked move down the right.
This was probably our best team performance of the season but despite this it was yet another match with no points to show for it. Saying that, it looked like we were enjoying it more than we have in previous games and that was really pleasing to see. We'll keep taking the positives out of the games and working hard to get those results.
Player of the match was Chloe Cronogue. It was her first start of the season (other than when she played in goal to cover the then injured Becks) and she showed her grit and determination ...but she also linked up well on the left wing with Hannah, Clo and Rhea to get us moving up the pitch.
The Leicester United Ladies and coaching team would like to wish our sponsors, The Clarence Bar Hinckley, Sophys Bar Leicester and you all, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
