Saturday 17th November PANGBOURNE 0 LETCOMBE 0 Pangbourne won 5-3 on penalties

This game was played on a dreadful surface which made passing football almost impossible. Letcombe dominated the game for 90 minutes, but failed to turn their superiority into many clear chances, and they failed to take those they did create.

Letcombe were clearly the better side throughout the first half, but the poor surface meant that they often had to resort to high crosses which were well dealt with by the Pangbourne defence. One good chance fell to Luke Mulvey after a flick from Jamie Saulter had opened the home defence, but his well struck shot over the advancing keeper went wide of the far post. Just before half time a good run down the left from Mulvey saw him cut the ball back to Saulter, whose close range shot hit the side netting.

The second half continued in a similar manner, although Ben Beasley had to save well to deny the hosts in a rare attack. The best chance of the half fell to Connor Willmoth, but he shot straight at the home keeper. Lewis Ralphs found the top corner with a 20 yard shot, but the referee had already penalised Letcombe for a push. With no extra time, the match was decided on penalties.

Luke Mulvey, Zach Pettifer and Connor Willmoth all scored, but Jamie Saulter`s spot kick was saved. With Pangbourne scoring from all five of their penalties, Letcombe were left to reflect on their failure to turn their possession into chances and goals.
