Didcot Town Youth 1 v 17 Letcombe

Didcot Town Youth 1 v 17 Letcombe

Danny Joyce27 Oct 2022 - 13:08

Berks & Bucks Cup Charles Twelftree Trophy Saturday 8th October

This game was a mismatch between Hellenic League Division Two South leaders Letcombe and North Berks Division Three side Didcot Town Youth.

Joe Hartley opened the scoring for Letcombe in the sixth minute from a Calum Pryce cross, and Sam Mulvey volleyed the second at the far post following a corner four minutes later. Hartley soon added the third before Pryce used his pace to race clear of the home defence for number four. Owen Shaw curled the ball into the top corner from 25 yards, and Kieran Strange scored number six from close range following a corner. George Oxley scored the best goal of the game for Didcot with a 35 yard screamer into the top corner, but Hartley soon completed his hat trick and Ben Hummel added number eight. Jordan Davies scored twice in the closing minutes of the half to make the score 10-1 at the break.

Letcombe made several changes, with assistant manager Matt Doig and coach Andy Barton both taking the field, and Barton responded with a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of the half. Keeper Harry Whitehead swapped places with striker Jack Daley, and Whitehead soon had the ball in the net before Doig scored with a back post header from a Shaw cross. Davies completed his hat trick in the 89th minute, but there was still time for Hummel to add number 17.

Credit should be given to the young Didcot side who never stopped trying throughout the game, and contined to try to play the game in the right manner, despite being outplayed throughout the match.

Much tougher games lie ahead for Letcombe, with a visit to Highworth Town reserves next Friday 14th October, kick off 7.45.
