Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree Trophy Saturday 28th January

Letcombe moved into the last 8 of the Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree trophy with an emphatic victory over Thames Valley Premier Division team Westwood Wanderers. After an even opening 10 minutes, Letcombe dominated the remainder of the half. A goalbound shot was deflected round the post, but Letcombe took the lead from the resulting corner, Luke Stone volleying the ball home from Kieran Kerby's corner. Josh Fowler broke clear on the left, and his low cross found Calum Pryce whose shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line. The hosts increased their lead midway through the half, Jordan Davies firing home from close range after the keeper had parried another Kerby corner. Davies had a shot cleared off the line before Letcombe added a third, Kerby collecting the ball on the half way line and running twenty yards before driving a low shot inside the post from 30 yards. Home keeper Harry Whitehead easily caught a free kick awarded for handball just outside the penalty area, and then a poor clearance went straight to a Westwood player ten yards from goal, but he shot wide.

Westwood improved markedly in the second half, and Letcombe stopped playing their flowing football, but in spite of having most of the play, the visitors created no clear chances against a well organised Letcombe defence. The hosts scored number 4 with 18 minutes remaining when Fowler broke clear on the right and drove his shot just inside the near post. Letcombe completed the scoring in the final minute when Kerby intercepted a pass and raced clear to score easily.

Letcombe entertain rivals Newbury in the Chairman`s cup next Saturday, 4th February, and with both teams unbeaten in their respective divisions this season, it promises to be a `must watch` game.
