Letcombe extended their unbeaten run, but this was not one of their better performances. They opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Luke Faircloth ran from the half way line before driving the ball past stand-in keeper Jacob Clappison from 20 yards. Josh Fowler hit the post and the rebound from Jordan Davies was also deflected onto the post by Clappison. Luke Stone found the net from a corner, but the effort was ruled out for a foul on the keeper. Letcombe increased their lead mid way through the half when Fowler raced clear before rounding the keeper and placing the ball in the net. Davies was fouled soon afterwards and Kieran Kerby scored from the resulting penalty, and the hosts added a fourth when Clappison allowed a shot from Davies to slip from his grasp and just over the line. George Riley almost pulled a goal back for Marlborough when he beat keeper Harry Whitehead to a cross, but his header from 15 yards hit the bar.
Letcombe should have increased their lead early in the second half after Kerby had been fouled, but Davies sent the resulting penalty high over the bar. Davies made amends soon afterwards, placing the ball into the corner after the best move of the match on the right. Davies completed his hat trick with 25 minutes remaining, but Letcombe then seemed to become complacent. Wiley was allowed to run clear of a square home defence, but shot straight at Whitehead.
Letcombe hit the woodwork six times, but tougher games lie ahead in the near future, and they need to be focused for a full 90 minutes.
Letcombe entertain Shortwood reserves in the Chairman`s cup next Saturday before they travel to Mortimer in the B&B Charles Twelftree trophy on December 10th. They are home to Swindon Supermarine development on 17th in a top of the table clash.
