Rest In Peace

BRIAN PILKINGTON.

Leyland Morris Men are saddened to hear of the recent death, at the age of 86years, of Brian Pilkington.

Brian was born in Leyland in 1933 and while playing football for Leyland Motors was signed for Burnley. He was instrumental during Burnley’s momentous 1959/1960 season that crowned Burnley as champions.

While at Burnley he won one full England cap in 1954 playing in place of the injured Tom Finney.

Spells at Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Barrow, Chorley and Leyland Motors, his home team, saw out his career.

In 1966 when Leyland Morris Men was reformed there was considerable local interest, in particular from employees at Leyland Motors, and Brian was one who joined the team in those early days.

I suspect he will be remembered as a left winger for Burnley and a successful local businessman rather than as a Morris dancer but the team, at the time, was grateful for his membership.

May he rest in peace.
