Lichfield back in action after weather postpones last weekends Uttoxeter trip

Lichfield will have another chance to extend their recent good league form as Paget Rangers visit the McDonalds Community Stadium this weekend.

Both sides should come into the fixture fresh, having seen their last games fall victim to the recent wet weather. Lichfields scheduled trip to Uttoxeter Town fell victim to a waterlogged pitch last Saturday, while a free weekend for Paget would have given them a nice rest ahead of a tough-looking Birmingham Midweek Cup Fixture at Atherstone Town, only for that game to be postponed too on Wednesday evening.

Nevertheless, there was some match action for a number of Lichfields first-team players for the reserves in their narrow defeat to Coton Green on Saturday, and Jamie Hawkins would no doubt have appreciated the chance to continue to get his ideas across to his players with a couple more training sessions this week.

Their opponents this weekend, Paget Rangers, currently sit one place below Lichfield in 11th, performing creditably after gaining promotion from Division Two last season. City have a 5 point cushion and also a game in hand over The Bears, and a win would open up a little bit of a gap and allow the players to continue looking up the table ahead of Tuesday nights home league fixture against Coventry Copsewood.

As mentioned, Paget have made themselves right at home in Division One this year and are sure to be a tough test for City on Saturday. Boasting one of the leagues top goalscorers in 18-goal Danny Carter, there are plenty of other attacking options in their line-up and perhaps crucially, they are a team right at home on 3G surfaces due to their groundshare with Premier Division Boldmere St Michaels.

It was at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground that the two teams met in the reverse fixture back in early October, and the end result on that night was 3-3 after a late Paget comeback. Lichfield raced into a two goal lead through Dan Griffiths and Tom Green, only to be pegged back by Dan Carter after 34 minutes. When Griffiths grabbed his second of the game to make the score 3-1 on 73 minutes Lichfield would have thought that the 3 points were safe, but all this strike did was spark a fantastic response from the home team and two goals in as many minutes meant that the score was 3-3 after 77 minutes. With no more goals to come, the spoils were shared and the teams will look forward to locking horns again on Saturday.

As ever, the bar will be open throughout the afternoon for food and drinks (both hot and cold) so please come along and support the lads. Kick-off is at 3pm, and we look forward to seeing you there.
