Lichfield continue their league campaign this weekend with a trip up the A50 to take on Uttoxeter Town.
Town currently sit in 14th place in the Midland Football League Division One, four places below City, and will provide a stern test on Saturday as Jamie Hawkins' side look for a third league win in succession, following on from last weekends comfortable home triumph over Pershore Town.
Uttoxeter have shown themselves to be one of the leagues entertainers over the last few weeks, showing the ability to score goals against the leagues best in their last two games by netting three times against both Leicester Road and Heather St Johns. Unfortunately, they have been unable to show similar quality at the other end of the pitch and despite gaining an excellent point at Leicester Road (coming back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3) they conceded 5 against Heather to come away empty handed with a 5-3 defeat. The nadir of Town's season so far came on the 16th of December, as they crashed to an incredible 13-1 defeat away to title chasing Atherstone Town, a result that has gone a long way towards giving them a current goal difference of -29 despite scoring the same amount of goals as 5th placed Studley.
The return to action over the last couple of games of the prolific James Curley, who was a regular for Leek Town earlier in the season, will give the Lichfield defence plenty to think about and with potential support from Matt Redshaw and 13-goal top-scorer Kyle Esplin it's sure to be an exciting game to watch at both ends of the pitch.
From City's point of view, encouraging performances from recent signings Drew Aiton, Chris Hanna and Aaron Dillon last weekend will have pleased the new boss, and a goalscoring cameo from Tom Green will give Lichfield plenty of attacking options as they look to build momentum and match the form of the teams above them to give themselves the best chance of finishing as high as possible.
Kick-off is at 3pm, and the address to aim for is Oldfield Sports Club, Springfield Road, Uttoxeter, ST14 7JX. There's always a warm welcome over there, despite the January weather likely to be the polar opposite, so please head along to support the lads and maybe even join us for a drink in the bar.
