Attendance 127
Linby sealed their place in this seasons Notts FA Senior Trophy , Semi-Finals , with an emphatic 4-0 win against an experienced Woodthorpe team, who play in the Notts Senior League.
With so many local matches falling foul of the wintery conditions, Linbys Church Lane pitch was passed fit . Referee Lee Clarke had no hesitation in declaring the Match On.
Linby started well, playing some neat football, chances, on 24 minutes for Archie Brown , who’s header went over the bar, and Spencer Pollitt a minute later, who saw his shot drift just wide.
The inevitable breakthrough came on 30 minutes, Captain Josh Wass played a sublime cross field pass to Liam Cartledge , as always his first touch was immaculate, cutting inside his man and planting his shot into the bottom corner, leaving WPR keeper Keaton Sharpe helpless , 1-0.
A chance on 35mins for the visitors saw Markel Baileys shot saved by Jack Walker, at the foot of his post.
On the stroke of half time, it was 2-0, the excellent Paddy Stefaniak combined with Cartledge , who sent a volleyed pass towards Ashdon Bernard, his deft header found Brown , who finished his one on one with typical aplomb, chipping over the on rushing Sharpe.
Half Time. Linby Colliery 2, Woodthorpe Park Rangers 0.
55 minutes , and Linby scored a third , Ewan Gibson combined with Stefaniak , playing a nice one-two, Gibson put Stefaniak in one on one, and the 17 year old finished neatly, for his first goal in senior football, 3-0.
To their credit , Woodthorpe didn’t give up , and fashioned a couple of decent chances,
themselves, 66 minutes, Jarrod Westcarrs turn and shot forced Walker into a good low save.
Then Dalton Stephen’s shot was saved by Walker.
But , Linby had the last say, on 88 minutes, after a flurry of substitutes, Ethan Fells fed Cartledge down the left, he unselfishly drew the keeper and squared for the unmarked Brown to tap home ,4-0.
It was another all round excellent performance from Linby. So hard to single out one player, yet another clean sheet, Walker at his best, in goal, the back four superbly marshalled by Wass, Greg Conns energy at RB. The front three were an handful all game, but for one so young, Stefaniak ran the game , his ability to find himself time and space is uncanny. Rarely plays a bad pass, along with Gibson and Pollitt , they were the engine room , in a faultless squad performance .
