It took another late goal but we extend our unbeaten run to 16 games with a vital 2-1 win away at Kimberley MWFC.
We took the lead in the sixth minute. A goal kick was flicked on by Jaime Ture and found Owen Vincent. The forward picked the ball up and cut in on his left foot. From there, he drilled an effort to the near post and beat the ‘keeper.
We were forced into an early change, as Paul Grimes was replaced by Kelly Fombad. The substitution saw Scott Matthews move into midfield.
Kimberley posed a threat on the break and it took a good claim from Jack Steggles to prevent a potential chance for the hosts.
We pushed to increase our lead and Jaime Ture dropped a shoulder in the midfield and played through Jack Varley. The Kimberley ‘keeper did well to prevent Varley from getting a shot away and the recycled play saw a cross fly over the Kimberley crossbar.
The chances kept coming and a deep Scott Matthews free kick was met by Sean Wright. His header found Jaime Ture whose stretching effort was held by the goalkeeper.
Scott Matthews played a through ball over the top to find Jack McMenemy. The forward’s effort was parried to Jack Varley who also forced a stop from the shot stopper.
A 25 yard effort from Kimberley almost found an equaliser but Steggles did well to dive and tip away from danger.
Both Jack McMenemy and Owen Vincent looked dangerous, with Owen Vincent looking to run in behind but the linesman had the flag raised.
Elliot Dye whipped a dangerous cross in from the right wing but his ball was just too high for Jack McMenemy to meet properly.
We went into the break a goal to the good, after a first half where we could’ve scored more than just one.
We started the second half how we finished the first and good play on the counter attack saw Elliot Dye found by Owen Vincent. The skipper squared the ball across but Varley was unable to finish sliding in at the back post.
We remained on top, with Jack McMenemy finding space on the edge of the area. His shot was blocked and cleared away.
The game became scrappy with heavy rain and the pitch deteriorating.
Kimberley equalised in the 83rd minute after a free kick wasn’t cleared properly.
We found a winner in the last few minutes. Scott Matthews delivered a free kick 25 yards from goal that flew in via a deflection from the desperate Kimberley defender.
