Lee Mitchell's Whites lost by four goals to nil in a very tough game against a well-drilled Boldmere side.
The former Imps manager became the third manager the Whites have had after short spells with Chris Funnell and Ricky Pledger. After ten games played, the result moved Lincoln United to 8th in the League.
The game began evenly as both teams sought to find the opener.
Just ten minutes in, Janelle Straker had the first chance, firing from the edge of the box, only to see her shot sail just over the crossbar. Three minutes later, Amy Hood came up with an excellent save to deny a clear goal-scoring chance.
Boldmere took the lead in the 23rd minute when a well-timed ball over the top found Straker, who finished comfortably to put the visitors ahead.
The Whites responded well, pushing to create chances and find the leveller.
As the first half came to a close, Boldmere created two more dangerous chances. It took two smart stops from Amy Hood to ensure we reached the break just one behind.
Hood was called into action right after the break, making another good save to keep the score at 1-0.
However, ten minutes in, Boldmere doubled their lead. Following sustained high pressure, Tilly Astell pounced on a defensive error and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Lincoln United attempted to respond, pushing forward but struggling to find the decisive final pass.
In the 70th minute, Boldmere’s captain Anna Wilcox broke through one-on-one with Hood and placed the ball into the bottom corner, extending the lead to 3-0.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Chyna McIntosh made a crucial tackle in the six-yard box to deny Boldmere a further opportunity.
However, in the 83rd minute, the visitors scored their fourth with a composed finish.
Post-Match Reaction
Lee Mitchell remained optimistic, praising a “strong” first-half performance and drawing positives from the game. He noted that Lincoln United started the second half with two good chances, remarking:
"On another day, those go in, and it’s a different game."
Despite the scoreline, there were plenty of positives to build on going into the rest of the season.
Looking ahead to next weekend, Lincoln United will take on Barnsley Women, who sit just above them in the table.
Up the Whites.
