Two second half goals seals a win and a clean sheet for the Whites as their preparation in pre-season continues.

Manager Scott Hellewell made 3 changes for the Whites third pre-season encounter, with his former team Winterton Rangers, whom he departed at the end of the season to join Lincoln United.

Some early pressure from the whites when Tris Drummond tried to play a ball through to player/assistant manager Paul Grimes but he could not quite latch onto the ball.

11 minutes and Winterton had an effort on goal but the effort curled comfortably wide of Steggles post.

Four minutes later and the Whites had a big shout for a penalty when Grimes goes down in the box, but the referee quickly waves away the appeals.

The Whites had the ball in the back of the net two minutes later through Jack McMenemy but the offside flag was raised.

20 minutes on the clock and Drummond drilled a fizzing ball across the Rangers box and is met by Callum Chapman but he cannot get enough onto it and the effort goes wide of the target.

Winterton could have asked a question of how they were not leading three minutes later when a pass from the right wing meets an unmarked attacker in the box but the Rangers forward blasted his effort over the bar.

A quick succession of chances fell for the Whites towards the end of the half with the keeper being tested inside the 36th minute when Leo Priestley's effort on goal is matched by the feet of the keeper.

But both teams entered the break goalless.

Inside the first five minutes of the half, McMenemy charged down the right side and placed a ball over the keeper but the Winterton defender was in the right place at the right time to clear it.

But the Whites had the opener, 10 minutes into the half, and it was prolific goalscorer Gregg Smith, who received the ball from Chapman and tapped it home into an empty net.

58 minutes marked changes for Hellewell's men when most of the bench were introduced.

Three minutes later and it could have been all level, when Winterton charged in behind and caught Steggles in no man land, takes it around him but Tom Hipwell recovered extremely well to block the shot on the goalmouth, and Steggles stopped a follow up shot.

66 minutes, Paul Grimes cut the ball onto his right foot and is brought down inside the box, with the referee pointing to the spot.

McMenemy stepped up and converted from the spot sending the Winterton keeper the wrong way.

FT: 2-0

The next game for the Whites is on Saturday at home to Stamford AFC, 3pm KO. UTW!
