Two goals from Jade Bell saw Northampton Town beat Lincoln United 5-1 to end Lee Mitchell’s five game unbeaten run.
United made two changes from the side that defeat Leafield Athletic two weeks ago, Tilly Fantom and Olivia Smith returned to the starting XI replacing Lucy Farrow and Izzy Thorpe.
After a scrappy first half, United edged in front against the run of play, Fantom latching onto a mistake by Cobbler’s back line forcing a save by Mclean but Alice Hayes followed up to slot it home to make it six goals this season.
After a break in play, Northampton were level through Jemima Footitt, a strike from 22 yards out looped over Chloe Gray into the bottom right corner.
The Cobblers captialised on the pressure and took the lead 5 mins later, Jade Bell, threading a ball to Kimberley Farrow who fired a strike from 30 yards out into the top corner.
Bell added a third in the second half, shrugged off the challenge from Chyna Mcintosh and slotted it away into the far corner.
Northampton added a fourth with 15 minutes to go, a corner from the left hand side found Faith Horner free in the six yard box for a tap in.
Bell rounded off the goals before the end, one on one with Gray as she slotted it past the goalkeeper into the net.
The defeat sees Lee Mitchell’s side stay 9th with the visit of Peterborough United to Ashby Avenue next Sunday.
