A gloriously sunny afternoon set the scene for the second annual Town Schools Girls Tournament hosted by Anton Junior School.
All of the participating schools have recently benefited from specific girls coaching sessions provided by Lions in the Community coaches and funded by Sport Unlimited, which have helped the girls develop their passing and dribbling skills as well as to develop their basic understanding of the game. The football on display during the tournament clearly reflected this recent coaching input but more importantly all the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and really entered into the spirit of the ocassion.
The Winton Young Apprentices were on hand to manage the teams and offer advice and encouragement, whilst Anton young leaders Cameron and Lucy did a superb job manning the score table for the afternoon. LITC coaches Cathy Devereux and Dan Adams were on hand to referee the games which were played as a round robin, with each team playing the other five. After five closely contested games on each pitch Portway Junior Girls ran out overall winners with Anton A and Vigo Juniors coming second and third respectively.
Congratulations to all the girls who took part in what was a very enjoyable and closely contested tournament!
