OAKEY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

OAKEY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Simon Jasinski15 Nov - 11:02

Long-serving defender, Richard Stokes has announced his retirement from playing.

Incredibly, 'Oakey's' link to the club goes back to 1985 when he played for our U9's, with either League and/ or Cup successes along the way at U11, U12, U14 and U15 level, while also represented the club in the Hampshire Youth League for the club at U18's.

During this time, Oakey would invariably be used as a right winger or striker, before converting to the more accustomed defensive role he's become known.

Spells in local football at Rogate, Liphook United and Clanfield Vets have interspersed his time at Newman Collard.

Manager, Mark Glazier, spoke of Oakey's influence over the years:

"Oakey was a big help in our change in direction a few seasons back to develop local players into the senior sides, and although we were getting battered most weeks, he was a much needed experienced and calming influence within the group.

"He's always shown a great attitude and consistency, works hard and has been a true role model to everyone in the club.

"Although Oakey's hanging-up his boots on the playing side, we're sure he'll continue to support the club and our ambitions off the pitch."

Congratulations Oakey - and a huge 'thank you' for your service, from all at the club!
