Littleborough Rugby Club always likes to set new boundaries and this weekend saw another good number added to the Green Army.

The youngest teams of the current crop of emerging and exciting talent took the field in the green, black and yellow of Littleborough in their first games of the new season. Fresh new faces lit up the Under 8's, 9's and 11's as they grew the ever burgeoning mini section.

We start our Minis coverage with the baby faced assassins of the Under 8's under the guidance of new coach Jack Whittles. Turning out with 12, facing an opposition at home of West Leeds Lions, the first time anyone has played them at mini/junior level, Littleborough were supposed to find it tough. However, Boro's under 8's demonstrated their quality and potential to win both games.

Starting there first game of tackling rugby was always going to be a massive baptism of fire for some of our Under 9’s on Sunday at West Leeds. However the young soldiers of the mighty green army took to the challenge with amazing spirit and appetite.

Having had to cope with depleted numbers because of the incident on the motorway. The seven boys took to the challenge with some excellent tackling especially from Dexter Macro-Smith who seemed to be all over the pitch!

The team soon opened up a healthy lead because of mistakes forced from excellent defence. Tries with a certain variety including some barraging runs and great team offloads in the tackle, saw debutant Archie Ridsdale, Ollie Fletcher, Dexter Macro-Smith, Noah Phillips and Matthew Makinson all put their name on the score sheet.

Come the second half, complacency and comfort from the boys meant sloppy mistakes put their opponents right back in the game. However, it did not take long for the boys in green, yellow an black to wake up and restore the lead, led by an amazing performance from Cody Bush who scored two tries sprinting down the line and tackling like an absolute monster.

Fletcher and Phillips showed some nimble feet to add to their personal tallies for the day.

Another of Littleborough rugby's debutantes Noah Caulfield showed some real effort and seemed to really enjoy his first game of competitive rugby as he made his first tackles without any fear and was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet.

Although the team played well, there is plenty for the kids to work on in training under the tutelage of Adam Bracegirdle and Neil Makinson, but on first evidence the Under 9’s are set for an exciting season.

In our final round up of the weekend, we finish with the Under 11's and well what can we say other than today’s score of 11-7 to West Park Leeds didn’t reflect how hard the team had to work today.

Considering some of their team mates including Timon Warby, Harrison Dickinson and coach Samuel Dickinson couldn’t get to the game due to a police incident on the M62 that shut the motorway near Huddersfield. The team did the best they could to put the disruption to preparation behind them to play well and to play hard.

They where a player short and a couple of our players stepped up and offered without being asked. A great show of sportsmanship and teamwork!

There were plenty of positives to take from the afternoon as the team demonstrated some fantastic set piece moves on display, the last ditch of defence on their try line was excellent and while being able to turn the ball over due to enormous pressure on the home side was outstanding!

West Park Leeds were not expecting that at their home turf and that was our turning point to closing the gap. Hat-tricks for Daniel Taylor and Ellis Johnson and a further score for Billie Eastwood were particular highlights on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. The coaches were extremely impressed with the grit and determination of each and every player. They did the team and the club proud
