We would like to take this opportunity to update supporters on the current state of the Sportsfield pitch following our sixth postponement of the season on Tuesday night.
As part of a multi-sport facility, the club pays a yearly five-figure sum towards the upkeep of our playing surface, which is maintained by the Sportsfield management’s full-time staff.
Work was carried out on the pitch in November ahead of the Merstham game, but issues arose following this maintenance. We lost significant grass coverage and are now faced with five areas of the pitch in particularly poor condition. These sections have become waterlogged, with the ball unable to bounce properly in these areas.
We are in regular contact with the Sportsfield management and are working towards solutions to rectify the issues, giving Saturday’s game against Sheppey United the best possible chance of going ahead.
