Liverpool take the points in the M62 Derby!

Liverpool take the points in the M62 Derby!

Ronnie Johnson18 Nov 2024 - 21:51

A close game sees Liverpool gain their fourth league win in a row.

Liverpool's only defeat this season came in September in the national cup losing narrowly 2-1 to Manchester Futsal B. They came into this game unbeaten in the league, just like York and Birmingham WLV, who met each other today too. So it was an opportunity to climb the table and to try and take the points home this time.

The National Cycling Centre and Manchester Futsal had hosted two Tier 1 games before this final game and it was great to see the matchday experience continue for the tier 2 game.

First half was a cagey and close game with both teams having the opportunity to open the scoring. Then a superb team goal from Liverpool broke the deadlock in the latter half of the first period. Tom Blake rolled the ball out to Roger Miranda Escamez who squared the ball under pressure to Sergio Hervas Martinez. A short ball forward to Matty Best who played a superb pass into space for Roger, to square it to Wesam Awn who calmly rolled the ball past the advancing Kai Bone to find the net.

Minutes later the hosts were level. A stray pass and Liverpool lost possession. Ammar Ahmed played a one-two and found himself in space near the goal to spin and calmly slot past Tom Blake. HT - Manchester B 1 - 1 Liverpool

First ten minutes of the second half were very much like the first. No goals , a tight game with both teams having opportunities. Sergio, was then dragged to the ground in his own half for a free kick. Sergio took the kick squaring to Jake Morris in his own half, who then played it out to goal-scorer Wesam Awn on the right wing. Short passes followed between Ramin Babaei and Jake and the ball came to Wesam on the centre circle. Wesam played an inch perfect ball to Jake behind the MFC defence and he calmly slotted the ball away to make it 2-1 to Liverpool.

Liverpool pushed for a third to try and take control but the young host team continued to battle for the equaliser and again mirroring the first half it came. Ahmed with the corner and the ball hit Roger and broke loose to Jacob Tohill who hit the ball hard and low from an acute angle to beat Tom Blake. Manchester B 2 - 2 Liverpool.

With minutes remaining Liverpool called a time out. Play resumed and both teams started to play briefly with fly-keeper to try and get a winning goal. Manchester started to apply the pressure and then called their time-out after winning a free-kick just outside the Liverpool area. Play resumed and the free-kick struck the Liverpool wall and went out for a kick-in. A corner followed and Manchester continued to apply the pressure.

Then Liverpool began to have the possession. Harrison Jackson going close with a shot cleared off the line. Manchester responded and had a few consecutive corners. Two minutes left. Another Manchester corner, Liverpool break with Harrison surging towards the half way line. The Manchester number 9 lunged and took H out, immediately substituting himself and getting his second yellow card. One minute left and Liverpool have the man advantage.

Wesam takes the free kick and plays it left to Jorge, the repeat this with Jorge being played into space on the left. A square ball finds Roger outside the area who thumps the ball past Bone into the top of the net to make it 3-2 for Liverpool.

Manchester continue to press for their third goal with the clock ticking. 30 seconds to go they go fly-keeper. Liverpool concede a free-kick outside their area. Liverpool are now on five fouls. Free-kick routine doesnt work out and the ball goes for a Manchester kick-in near the half-way line. Seconds left. They shoot wide and the full-time buzzer goes. FT Manchester B 2 -3 Liverpool
