Whitburn well beaten at rain soaked Livingston
Whitburn took a well deserved lead today at Station Park in the 20th minute when a beautiful strike from the edge of the box by Darren Tomaszewski found the top corner. The lead only lasted 5 minutes, though as a long ball was collected by Chris O’Kane who drove in on goal and fired past Dougie Horne. With 7 minutes of the half to go Dewi Taylor played in Martin Russell whose shot from 15 yards came back off the post with the keeper beaten. As so often happens Livingston went back up the other end and an attempted clearance bounced off a Livi player straight to an unmarked Andy McQuillan who made no mistake against his old side in opening his account for his new one. He made it two 5 minutes into the second half when his slightly mis-hit shot from the edge of the box looped over a helpless Horne. 5 minutes later a very similar shot looped into the goal from another seemingly mis-hit shot, this time from O’Kane but wider on the left. With around 15 minutes to go it was 5 as two subs combined, 16 providing a low left wing cross and Chris Rooney knocking the ball into the net. Meanwhile Whitburn had a sole effort saved late on from a well hit shot by sub Andy Mochan. In the end Livingston coped far better on the increasingly deteriorating pitch than Whitburn who found it difficult to play their passing game. One best forgotten and move on to the next game!
