As part of the Scarlets inclusion day, the Warriors and Vikings met on the training field at Parc y Scarlets, on the morning of the Scarlets clash with Edinburgh. A chance for both teams to show of mixed ability rugby amongst other forms such as Walking, Wheelchair and Tag rugby. The sense of occasion was added to with Scarlets legends Rupert Moon and Dwayne Peel amongst the spectators.

Both sides were able to field big squads although the Warriors were short of recognised centers, with Steve Marshall again filling in alongside Mathew Hinder.

After some initial probes from both sides, the Vikings drew 1st blood, a sharp bit of direct running caught he Warriors pack napping, with he defensive line, which has been a strength in recent matches, non existent.

There were better efforts against the Vikings’ maul, twice managing to hold them up.

The Vikings got further ahead from a counter of their own, a broken tackle in mid field, some quick hands and quicker feet and they were over the try line - a quality score.

The Warriors did hit back before the break, after going close in one corner, the Warriors pushed it wide, and Marshall was just able to stretch over and score.

12-5 at half time.

The second half saw the Warriors pressuring. They worked their way up field and from a scrum, No 8 James Evans bulldozed over. As in recent matches, the Warriors found it hard to adapt to the opposition having touch players and being unable to muscle their way forward. The introduction of Rhys Evans helped them pick up the pace and they looked dangerous on the attack, but despite several sweeping moves, couldn’t get the space to pass outstretched arms.

The Vikings extended their lead a little against the run of play, an interception as they were putting some phases together was something of a sucker punch. Especially with a successful conversion.

The Warriors continued to press and this lead to another close range scrum and a carbon copy second try for Evans. Again though, having been forced wide, the conversion was too much.

With time ticking, the Warriors redoubled efforts and pressed hard, both sides had chances to seal the game, and the Warriors will rue the odd poor pass, but try as they might, there were no further scores.

Another so near but yet so far for the Warriors but it was also not as strong a performance as the previous week. With some tough fixtures on the horizon, they are playing well enough to win, but need to nold concentration and maintain accuracy at crucial times.
