This weekend saw Llanfyllin finally play the cup quarter final away at Berriew.

On a very hard and bobbly pitch Llanfyllin started the game quite slowly allowing the hosts to maintain a lot of possession, without actually creating any real threat. Despite the lack of possession the Magpies looked the more dangerous of the sides with a few half chances dropping to Zakh Ward, and Liam Jones having a few decent runs down the left. Unfortunately they failed to convert any, this allowed the home side more time to grow into the game even more.

After an opening 20 minutes with the only chances being Llanfyllin's half chances, Berriew began turning their possession into chances. Luckily for the visitors who were getting worse as the half went on they too failed to make any of them count and hardly troubled Shug. 5 Minutes before the break it seemed as if the home sides possession would pay off, when Mozzy was penalised for a push in the back. Although it seemed a very harsh decision the referee still pointed to the spot. The confident looking number 10 lined up for the kick, it was very well struck and into the corner. But Shug pulled off an outstanding save getting a solid left hand to it and tipping it around the post. Allowing Llanfyllin to go into the break all square with a chance to regroup.

A different Magpies came out after the break, they were much more organised allowing the home side to have the ball in certain areas whilst putting up a wall whenever they attempted to create anything. They began getting more of the ball in the centre of the park with Diggy, Calum and Sam all beginning to get hold of the game. It didn't take long for a bit of quality to come through and the visitors to take the lead. Some nice football down the right saw the ball worked into Zakh who managed to just flick the ball into Calum Vaughans path, who in turn took a nice touch before calmly rolling the ball into Liam Jones path. Liam made no mistake in finishing the move giving him his third goal in as many games.

The goal gave Llanfyllin more of a boost and they began knocking the ball around nicely. After the goal it didn't take long for them to double the lead, this time through a bit more of a scrappy route. A very generous free kick was awarded to Liam Jones on the corner of the 18 yard box. Liam then delivered a decent ball into the box, what was almost turned home by Diggy at the near post. Luckily it dropped to Zakh at the back post, who brought it down with a question of handball being raised before trickling it into the far corner putting the game to bed.

2-0 down and chasing the game Berriew started getting very frustrated and were extremely lucky not to be more goals down and to keep 11 men on the field. They did however, have a few chances what would have made the closing minutes interesting but Llanfyllins back lined stayed firm and kept them out. Zakh Ward should have increased the lead further, after picking the ball up on the halfway line he skipped past 4 or 5 Berriew defenders before rounding the keeper. With the open goal in front of him, he some how managed to switch off and thump the ball high and wide. This miss will without doubt earn him the fabled miss of the season trophy at the end of the year.

Overall it was a very good result for the Magpies and sees them into the semi final, with the majority of the thanks having to go to man of the match Gareth Jones. Who saved the penalty allowing the team to turn the game around.
