Llantwit made the short trip to Treforest missing a few key players through late withdrawals with Adrian Pike injured and Steven Morgan unavailable, but were determined to put in a good performance.
Llantwit started well and were on the attack from the start in their 4-3-3 formation. The pitch made it impossible to play a passing game so both teams often relied on the long ball, but it was Llantwit who took the lead after 10 minutes through a superb right footed strike from midfielder Phil Medd. The ball broke to Medd on the edge of the area, who curled the ball into the far top corner beating the helpless outstretched keeper. Llantwit didn’t sit on their lead and continued to press forward and were determined to win the ball back whenever they lost possession. Treforest managed to get a foothold on the game towards the end of the first half and were starting to look dangerous without really threatening the Fardre goal until the 5 minutes before half time when they were awarded a penalty. The referee pointed to the spot after Ian Atherton brought down the Treforest striker just inside the penalty area. The penalty beat Dai Connelly to make it 1-1 at half time.
The second half wasn’t pretty as both teams relied on the long ball without much joy. Treforest did miss 1 or 2 good chances when it looked easier to score but Llantwit were let off the hook and held on for a good point against second placed Treforest. FT 1-1.
Fardre travel to newly crowned SWAL champions Llantwit Major on Saturday hoping to keep their position in the top 6 with only 3 games to play.
