PREVIEW: Loughborough Dynamo vs Worksop Town

PREVIEW: Loughborough Dynamo vs Worksop Town

Kieran King16 Aug 2019 - 10:53

Dynamo host Worksop in season-opener

Loughborough Dynamo kick-start their BetVictor Northern Premier League South East campaign when they face Worksop Town at the ADT Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Dynamo come into the clash having had mixed results during pre-season – winning just two of their eight fixtures. But much-improved performances against Matlock and Coleshill has left them in good stead going into the new campaign.

Loughborough have retained the majority of last season’s squad that produced the club’s joint highest-ever finish and have also added some new additions to the fold. Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson, Will Norcross, Charlie Scanlon and Dexter Atkinson could all make their competitive debuts on Saturday after joining this summer.

Manager Lee Attenborough will be without the suspended pair of Luke Foster and Ryan Robbins while Josh Riley is still unavailable. Ruben Asamoah, who heavily featured for the club last season, will be back in the squad ahead of the clash.

Dynamo are in search of their seventh consecutive league victory after they ended last season in-style with six wins on the bounce.

On the opposition:

Worksop had a terrific 2018/19 campaign after they won the Northern Counties East League, and are therefore back in the eighth tier of English Football for the first time since 2014.

The Tigers have already played a competitive fixture this season. They fell to a shock 2-1 defeat against Melton Town in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round last Saturday [10 August]. Following on from their disappointment, club captain Daniel Patterson was released by their manager Craig Denton after he refused to play.

Denton has bought in a few new faces to Sandy Lane this summer including centre back Joshua Ross who was previously at Rainworth Miners Welfare and Eastwood Town.

Gaffer’s thoughts:

Dynamo boss Attenborough is expecting a tough test from the visitors at the weekend.

He said: “They’ll be tough. I spoke to Brad [Munn] in the week and I said: ‘I’m always wary of teams that come up from the league’s below because generally they seem to keep a nucleus of a squad – most lads are happy when they’re winning games.’

“I know they won 22 in a row until this weekend so they’ll be strong; there’s no doubt about that. And when lads come up from the league below they come with lots of confidence. They come having usually scored lots of goals the season before – not conceding too many – so they’re in good habits.

“So they’re always going to be a threat, there’s no doubt about that. There’s not many pushovers and certainly on Saturday it won’t be one of those.”
