In spite of resilient Kewford defending and great goalkeeping, Lye recorded a comfortable 6-0 win to close the gap on top spot.
The game started at a good pace with Lye looking intent on attacking Kewford from the off. Lye created a couple of decent goal scoring opportunities, before taking the lead after 8 minutes when Parsons scored with a great strike following a neat pass from Manneh.
Lye were in the ascendancy forcing Kewford to take a more defensive attitude, which to their credit, they did well. The home side enjoyed plenty of the ball and worked patiently together crafting out attacks. Lye were unlucky not to have gone 2-0 up in the 17th minute, when Falconer's low shot beat the Kewford keeper only to be hooked away off the line by a defender.
Lye kept plugging away, but were pegged back by their opponents who stood resolute. From out of nowhere, Kewford had a rare shot on target in the 39th minute, that Irvine did will to turn over the bar. The corner was well cleared by Lye who instantly turned the move into attack. The ball was moved up-field to Griffiths whose shot was parried by the Kewford keeper. Shirley reacted quickly and slid into to force the ball over the line to put Lye 2-0 up at the break.
Lye started the second half well and created a number of early scoring chances that they should have capitalised from. 15 minutes into the half, Lye deservedly went 3-0 ahead when Morris played a good ball into Ayas who then lobbed the keeper from distance. On the hour mark, Lye made it 4-0 when Sharp fired home superbly from Shirley's excellent pin-point pass.
Kewford didn't cave and tried to find a way back into the game as Lye lost a bit of their shape and tired legs set in. However, the Lye backline stood firm not allowing their opponents time to mount any serious threat. Lye continued to mount pressure on the Kewford goal and scored 5th in the 70th minute, when Morris' cheeky back heel beat the keeper.
Lye wrapped up a pleasing victory in the 78th minute when Manneh headed home the 6th goal from Ayas' perfectly delivered corner.
A very good, solid team performance from Lye who impressed in all areas on the pitch. The win coupled with first placed West Hagley's surprise defeat, means Lye are now only 5 points behind with 3 games in hand.
