Match report should start by saying WELL DONE to every Lutterworth player. Today Lutterworth were on top form with every player giving 100%. Thanks to the persistence and power of the forwards, brilliant rucking combined with all round tackling, Lutterworth were able to move the ball well and score a number of exceptional tries. In defence Lutterworth were immense, the best ever defence in a match / set of matches, possibly, probably?
Game 1 - Lutterworth v Loughborough
So game 1 brought Lutterworth back to their friends from earlier in the season, Loughborough - with both sides (apparently) looking forward to a return game. Overall Lutterworth control and dominate the game with good team play leading to a jinking try for Matt Rigo (welcome back Matt ). Lutterworth maintain the pressure, tackle well and work hard to secure a second try from Sam Robinson. Half Time Lutterworth 2, Loughborough 0
Loughborough start the second half on the front foot and James Boyles makes the try saving tackle to keep Lutterworth at 2-0 before Lutterworth work through the game, and then that monster steal and brilliant try from Ollie Read puts Lutterworth 3 tries to nothing up. Some late pressure from Loughborough ends in a consolation try in the last minute of the game. And who tackled the big fella at the end?
Lutterworth win 3 - 1
Game 2 – Lutterworth v Coalville
Messy start to the game before a great offload from Ben Neale to James Boyles who scores Lutts first try. Coalville put Lutterworth under sustained pressure before turnover and a field length run by Sam Robinson to score try number 2. Lutterworth go in 2-0 at half time. Second half sees some the best rucking (ever) from Lutterworth (well done forwards) then off the ruck on the Coalville line, Digger scores a beauty from 5 yards out. Lutterworth 3, Coalville 0. Another try saving tackle from James ensures ends the game 3-0
Lutterworth win 3 - 0
Game 3 – Lutterworth v Ashby
A good opening for Lutterworth and quick hands to James Boyles for try number 1 is followed by a good take from kick off and a monster drive by George to set up Lutterworth, a nice offload from Sam Robinson sees James on try number 2. Persistence and some good kicking skills from Frank Critchlow gets Lutterworth camped on the Ashby line and despite pressure Lutterworth come away without reward. Big try for James makes it 3 – 0 for half time.
Not satisfied with three tries James runs in his forth rewarding exceptional work by the forwards. The sustained pressure gets Matt Rigo in for his second of the day and the fifth in the match. Against the play Ashby get one back so 5 - 1 and then put Lutterworth under massive pressure again. On the Lutterworth line the Team make a strong defence, Lennox Scarrott gives the big push back, Rigo and Freddie Smith tackle relentlessly, everyone is… and Ashby have the try held up on the line. At the final whistle
Lutterworth win 5 - 1
Game 4 Lutterworth v Melton
Both Melton and Lutterworth have won three games so the decider is, as expected a balanced, challenging and physical game. And for the fourth game, the Lutterworth forwards and defending left nothing in the locker. Chico gets the first try for Lutterworth in what turns out a tight, tight game with Lutterworth defending staunchly on the line before Melton get one back and the final score a draw
Lutterworth 1, Melton 1
