Survival achieved!!

Survival achieved!!

Lydney earn another crack at level 5 for the 11th consecutive season.

I can't think of any time that anyone would be celebrating after an 8-0 home defeat in their last game of the season.
But that was exactly what the team, management and support were actually doing when the final whistle was blown against a superb Roman Glass St.George side yesterday.

Town manager, Lee Smith was handed the job following the debacle of the previous appointment, with a remit to keep us in the league. Smith brought with him coaches Adam Dix and Warren Evans, along with a host of experience and a million contacts.

After suffering a 3-1 defeat in their first game, Smith slowly began to add key players to bolster a squad bereft of confidence. A gradual improvement was starting to happen. Confidence grew throughout the side, and performances began to get better. All in all, the team were easier to watch. The support began to feel we could give most sides a proper contest. Yes, there were still big blips along the way, a 7-0 defeat at neighbours Tuffley Rovers stands out as one, but all in all you could see some green shoots of improvement.

The end result was achieved with the help of 3 big wins during the final run in. After a great 2-0 win at Longlevens, we were then beaten 2-0 by Champions Hartpury, where it was 0-0 at half time. We then beat bottom club Malmesbury away followed by both Corsham and Cirencester at home. Those points put us above the relegation zone and we stayed there with results going our way at the end, despite losing our last two games.

So now the management team have a whole summer to sort their own side out in preparation for next season. The club would like to thank the team for their contribution, and hope they continue to enjoy their time with us all at Lydney Town.
