Welcome to Magherafelt Sky Blues Football Club
Magherafelt Sky Blues Football Club is situated in the town of Magherafelt, Northern Ireland.

The impetus behind the creation of Magherafelt Sky Blues Football Club was borne through the desire of a number of local football enthusiasts to start up a mixed religion football team and the club was formed in 1970. It took the 'Sky Blues' aspect of the clubs name from Coventry City.

The club took control of the football pitch located in the centre of the town nicknamed 'Stoney Park' in 2007. The club renamed the pitch 'Spires Park'.

From the outset it was agreed that the basis of the Club would be firmly enshrined in the Constitution backed up with a proactive Child Protection Policy. Central to the ethos of the Club was a strong emphasis on cross community participation.

Some of the key facts about the club are listed below
• Magherafelt Sky Blues Football Club were formed in 1970
• We have always been a cross community club and are proud that we provide football for players from all communities
• In the last six years the club has gone from strength to strength
• We have leased our own football pitch from the local council called ‘Spires Park’
• We provide football through all age levels for players in Magherafelt and surrounding area
• We are now regarded as the biggest amateur club with teams at all levels in South Derry (the next biggest would be Dungannon Swifts, Ballymena United and Coleraine – just to put into context what we have achieved)
• We have two senior teams, six youth teams at U16, U14, U13, U12, U11, U10 levels
• Three of the youth sides play in the NIBFA National League (the highest standard in Northern Ireland)
• We also have the biggest IFA approved mini-soccer centre in South Derry (upwards of 100 players)
• Whilst a number of Players from the club have been selected for the County L'derry Excellence Squads
• The club have also developed an Old Boys (over 35’s) network and play the 'El Classico' at Meadowbank on a weekly basis
• In total the club has grown from 30 members to well over 300 members
• The club website the main centre of all things Sky Blues has received over 170,000 hits in the past year (www.skybluesfc.net)
• The club have already had plans passed for a new 3g pitch with floodlights, changing rooms, and small stand at their Spires Park location
• We support local charities through combined fundraising and have provided coaching to local day centre groups
• Robert Rainey, Chairman, was recently awarded by the IFA and McDonalds with an Outstanding Contribution award for his commitment to local football over a long number of years
