Magherafelt Sky Blues has been named The Co-operative Insurance Football Development Centre Monthly Award winner for August 2010.

The Co-operative Insurance Football Skills Development Centre won a bag of coaching equipment including footballs, bibs, discs, mini-goals, hurdle cones, poles and first -aid bag provided by The Co-operative Insurance, sponsor of The Co-operative Insurance Football Development Centres.

Magherafelt Sky Blues Co-operative Insurance Football Skills Development Centre, now in its fourth year, caters for over 100 children, aged between five and 12, from across South Derry under the guidance of Co-ordinator Glenn Robinson and his team of volunteer coaches.

It provides fun and informal coaching based around small-sided games for boys and girls regardless of ability. Coaching sessions include speed, agility and quickness training and skill development games with an emphasis at all times on fun.

Glenn was delighted to receive the award: “It is great news that our centre has won the August monthly award as it demonstrates our on-going success in providing local children with a positive introduction to football at an early age.

“Our teams of dedicated coaches focus on teaching young players the fundamentals of football and important qualities such as respect, discipline and teamwork that allows the children to develop and progress as promising footballers and ultimately as rounded individuals who can go on to make positive contributions to the local community and the wider society.”
