After winning the toss and bowling first, Malpas soon had CCO in trouble, Will David picking up the key wicket of their captain after a juggle from Harry Cunningham at point. The returning Rhys Young then picked up his first wicket of the season with a fine delivery which bowled the number 3. Malpas kept things very tight with Mike Parry looking solid from one end and Callum Southall picking up an early wicket with his left arm spin. As CCO began to increase the scoring rate Parry picked up a hat full of wickets, courtesy of some good catching from Harry and Rhys and a good deliver to remove their stubborn opener.
This left Malpas 130 to win, a target we've often failed to chase in the last few years.
The nerves were well and truly settled as Parry and Rob McMinn put on 68 for the wicket. Mikey latching on to anything short or too full and Rob crunching some glorious shots through and over the offside. It wouldn't be a Malpas chase without a little wobble as Tom Lyes and Matt Hagan succumbed quickly but Rhys Young steadied the ship with an elegant 25 not out to see Malpas home alongside Parry who hit a fine 61 not out. The umpire and the opposition were left talking about one back foot punch through the offside from Young almost reminiscent of his Yorkshire idol Joe Root.
With the full 25 points in the bag, we host Frodsham next week in what could be a good contest.
As the night drew in and the sun went down on a successful day after he scored a 50 and got a 5 for Mikey was last seen raising a glass of champagne and taking a selfie in his new hot tub!!
