Arsenal Ladies 4-2 Everton Ladies

Arsenal Ladies 4-2 Everton Ladies

Richard Cross11 May 2010 - 06:37

Everton Ladies travelled to Borehamwood last Sunday to play Arsenal Ladies in the FA Women's Premier League.

The game took place just six days after Everton Ladies victory over Arsenal Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup at Nottingham Forrests ground.

The final score Arsenal (4) Everton (2) does not truly reflect the game, yet again Everton Ladies can be proud of the display of quality football they gave matching Arsenal player for player.

By half time Everton were 2 – 0 down due to two well taken goals by Yankey and Davidson. However that was all that separated the teams and Everton showed their incredible resilience by coming out in the second half and levelling the score. Firstly a wonderfully taken free kick from Captain Farah Williams (52) saw the ball fly into the top left hand corner, comprehensively beating the Arsenal keeper. Next to come was another well taken goal from inform striker Tash Dowie (62).

All was level and the quality of play from both sides kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. But finally Arsenal came though this game as victors when Gemma Davidson scored with 78 minutes on the clocks and then a Julie Fleeting shot was deflected in to the net taking the game beyond Everton’s reach.

This win by Arsenal has secured them another league title, leaving Chelsea, Everton and Leeds battling to finish in second place to secure that all important place in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Everton travel to Nottingham this evening to play their fourth competitive game in 8 days. Then on Saturday they will play Blackburn Rovers in their final game of the season at Radcliffe Borough FC (Kick off 12 noon). Good luck to Mo and the Team this week as they strive to finish second in the league as this would secure a place in the UEFA Champions league and it would be good to see more European games at Marine next season.
