Match Report: Tadcaster Albion 2-1 Marine

Tom Clarke14 Sep 2019 - 22:35

Tom Clarke reports from Ings Lane as Mariners fall a Tad short...

Marine fell foul to a 2-1 defeat at Tadcaster Albion on Saturday afternoon, goals from Donald Chimalilo and Jason Day cancelling out Kenny Strickland's opener.

Salford City loanees Max Broughton and Daniel Hawkins both made their Marine debuts from the start in midfield, in the absence of Steve Irwin and with Ethan Devine dropping to the bench.

Day had the first chance of the game eight minutes in, shooting at goal from just outside the box, but Shamal George was equal to it.

James Barrigan was forced off with an injury just eleven minutes into the affair, with the 'masking-taped avenger' Rumenio Barai taking his place on the wing.

Strickland broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark, lashing the ball past Michael Ingham in the Tadcaster net after catching onto a loose ball inside the penalty box.

Chimalilo equalised just nine minutes later, though, curling the ball into the top corner to give George no chance this time.

After the teams emerged for the second period with honours even, Day was played through on goal to take on George one-on-one. There was only one winner of that battle, though, the Liverpool loanee in goal pushing the ball away to kill the chance.

Aboubacar Gassama was Marine's third debutant of the day, the centre-back replacing Craig Lindfield to form a back three shortly after the hour mark.

There was then a stoppage in play, unusually, as the referee received petroleum jelly to the eyebrows from Marine physio Tom Foster.

Broughton managed to clear two goalbound efforts off the line in quick succession on his Marine debut, to keep the score level as Tadcaster pressed on.

That pressure eventually brought the winning goal, Jacob Day sealing the deal on 76 minutes for the hosts.

Tadcaster were content to kill the game off, as Marine couldn't find a way through the hosts' resolute defence late on and came away from the i2i Arena with a defeat.

Neil Young's side now have a week to regroup, before hosting Dunston next Saturday 21st September in the Emirates FA Cup at 3pm.
