The Board of Directors are pleased to be able to confirm the appointment of Andy Cooke as Director of Football and also as a player, who will be working alongside Jimmy Mullen, our recently appointed first team manager.
The 37 year-old will be a familiar name and face to many in the Drayton area, and it won’t be the first time Jimmy and Andy have worked together. As manager of Burnley, it was Jimmy who signed Andy for a fee of £40,000 from Newtown in the summer of 1995 to give him his first taste of League football.
After five years with Burnley, Andy was transferred to Stoke City in a £300,000 deal, and also had spells with Busan I’Cons in South Korea, Bradford City, Darlington (on loan), and finally ended up with a dream move home to Shrewsbury Town where he had two years, including a play-off final appearance in 2007.
Andy’s main focus will naturally be on working with the first team squad, but in something of a dual-role he is also keen to develop and promote the Club in its ambition to move forward and achieve bigger and better things.
And don’t write him off as a player either. His love of the game is as strong as it’s always been and with a bit of fine-tuning on the fitness front, we look forward to seeing him out on the pitch playing in a Market Drayton Town shirt!!
